Best Smart Ring: Oura vs RingConn vs Ultrahuman vs CUDIS

Four smart rings. First is an Oura Ring 5, the second is RingConn Gen 3, the third is CUDIS OO2 Sporty, and the fourth Ultrahuman Pro for Kygo Health's comparison between the four brands.

There is no single best smart ring in 2026, because the four brands selling them are not competing on the same axis, and the gap that matters is not the sticker price. Oura Ring 5 is $399 and needs a $69.99 per year membership, putting three years near $603. RingConn Gen 3 is $349 flat. Ultrahuman's Ring PRO is $479 flat, but only the PRO can legally enter the US and it is still pre-order. CUDIS runs $349 to $399 flat. And of the four, only Oura has independent peer-reviewed accuracy data on any of its rings. Every figure below was read off the manufacturers' own pages.

I went looking for a head to head study covering all four of these rings and there isn't one. So this comparison does the next best thing: it reports what each company publishes, and says plainly which of those numbers have a method behind them and which do not.

The Ultrahuman Ring AIR sits at $349 on the global store but is not orderable to a US address, so it is left out of the US math above.


Worth being fair to Oura on the number that looks worst. The membership is cancellable at any time and the three daily scores survive cancellation, hardware and membership are HSA and FSA eligible on all four brands, and the fee funds a release cadence the others do not match: Health Panels, Cumulative Stress, Nutrition Levels, a women's health AI, Health Radar and GLP-1 Insights all shipped in the twelve months before this comparison. Whether that is worth $70 a year depends entirely on whether you open those features. We ran the generation level math separately in is the Oura Ring 5 worth it.


What “no subscription” means, three different ways


All three challengers market no subscription, and the phrase does not mean the same thing across them.


RingConn is the literal version. Everything the ring does is included at purchase on Gen 3, Gen 2 and Gen 2 Air, and the charging case is in the box. The corollary is that there is no recurring revenue funding future software, and its published feature set is narrower. We took that exact trade apart in the Oura Ring 5 versus RingConn Gen 3 cost breakdown.


Ultrahuman charges nothing to see your own ring data, then sells software separately as PowerPlugs. Ten are free, including Cycle and Ovulation, Pregnancy Insights, Caffeine Window, Smart Alarm and Shift Work. The paid ones are Cardio Adaptability at $24 a year, Cycle and Ovulation Pro at $39 a year, and Tesla Sync at $6.90 a month, with AFib detection also sold as a plug-in. Ultrahuman's own Ring Rare page values the complete set at $133 a year. There is also UltrahumanX coverage at $36 to $54, which the company states plainly is backed by Ultrahuman rather than an insurer and offers no financial reimbursement. So the honest framing is: free to read your ring, real recurring bill if you want heart rhythm monitoring or ovulation confirmation.


CUDIS charges nothing and sells nothing recurring. It also publishes materially less capability, which the next two sections get into.

Two things in that table are worth pulling out.


CUDIS has no skin temperature sensor. No CUDIS product page mentions one, and the privacy policy enumerates exactly which health data types the ring collects: steps, sleep, heart rate, HRV, resting heart rate, SpO2, distance, cycling cadence and active calories. Temperature is not among them. The practical consequence is that CUDIS cycle tracking and illness onset signals cannot be temperature derived, which is how every other ring here does it.


Ultrahuman own site contradicts itself on the Ring AIR. The Compare table on the Ring PRO page lists 2.4 mm thickness and 2.4 g weight flat, while the Ring AIR's own technical specifications block lists 2.45 to 2.8 mm and 2.4 to 3.6 g varying by size. Both are live today. The table above uses the technical specifications figures.


Battery, where the ranking flips


Manufacturer ratings put Ultrahuman's Ring PRO first at up to 15 days, and up to 45 days with its charging case. RingConn Gen 3 follows at 11 to 14 days, or 10 to 12 with vibration alerts on. CUDIS claims up to 10 days. Oura Ring 5 is rated 6 to 9. The Ultrahuman Ring AIR is last at 4 to 6 days, which is the weakest figure any of these brands publishes.


Every one of those is a manufacturer rating under that company's own test conditions, so they are not strictly comparable to each other. The one number with outside corroboration is CUDIS's, and it over delivers: two independent reviewers reached roughly two weeks on a charge against a 10 day claim.


Charging accessories differ in a way the specs undersell. RingConn and Ultrahuman put a case or dock in every box, Oura's Ring 5 case is a separate $99, and CUDIS's pod is a separate $50 that has been showing sold out.


Validation: this is where the four brands genuinely separate


Every brand here says it is accurate. Only one of them has independent peer-reviewed evidence, and the differences between the other three are differences in kind, not just degree.

Unmatched accuracy positioning, 8 papers listed on its science hub

A PubMed search for “Ultrahuman ring” returns zero results. The flagship paper (Frontiers in Digital Health, July 2026, n=442) is authored entirely by Ultrahuman employees including the CEO, and states in its own text that no comparison to laboratory VO2 max or CPET was performed. The only heart rate figure is an in-house pilot of six volunteers over six days, compared against an Apple Watch and another consumer ring rather than ECG

CUDIS

No accuracy figure of any kind

No study or third-party lab testing, and no FDA record: queries against openFDA for 510(k) applicant, 510(k) device name and establishment registration all returned zero.


Two qualifications, in both directions. Oura's headline flatters it more than the detail does: its own marketing figures have historically traced back to studies its employees authored on earlier hardware, and there is no independent data on the Ring 5 you would buy today. What Oura has that the others do not is that outside researchers have tested an Oura ring at all.


And the three challengers are not equivalent to each other. A hospital partnered feasibility study is real external work, so RingConn is ahead of the other two even though feasibility stage apnea research is not validated accuracy across metrics. Descriptive cohort data on 442 people is not nothing either, and Ultrahuman publishes its methods openly enough that you can see the limits yourself. CUDIS publishes nothing to check.


None of these four is a medical device and none claims FDA clearance for the features compared here. Ultrahuman's AFib detection runs on FibriCheck's cleared technology, which is a third party's clearance, not Ultrahuman's. If you are shopping in the US, Ultrahuman's lineup is legally restricted


This is a fact about availability, not a judgement about the product, and it is easy to miss because most roundups do not mention it.


Oura brought an ITC case against Ultrahuman and RingConn (Investigation No. 337-TA-1398). The Commission issued its final determination on August 21, 2025, finding infringement of certain claims of US Patent 11,868,178, and granted a limited exclusion order plus cease and desist orders. RingConn settled with a multi-year royalty bearing licence. Ultrahuman did not, and appealed. That appeal is consolidated at the Federal Circuit and has not been decided.


What this means at the checkout today: only the redesigned Ring PRO can enter the US, under a CBP ruling issued March 6, 2026 covering its specific unibody titanium tube architecture. The Ring AIR's US buy page redirects to the Ring PRO. The Diesel and Rare rings both display a message that Ultrahuman is currently unable to sell or ship to US addresses. And the Ring PRO itself is still listed as pre-order, “shipping September 15th onwards,” a date that has moved from May 15, then June 20, then August 10. Ultrahuman attributes the slips to manufacturing rather than the legal position.


So if you are buying in the US this week, the practical Ultrahuman option is a $479 pre-order. Outside the US, the Ring AIR is available at $349 and the picture is different.


The CUDIS crypto layer, briefly


CUDIS markets earning rewards for healthy habits, so it is worth knowing what that is. You accumulate off-chain points for things like sleeping seven hours or hitting step goals, and tokens are airdropped pro rata. The $CUDIS token launched on Solana in June 2025 and now trades around a tenth of a cent, with a market capitalisation near $260,000, roughly 99.6% below its high. Independent reviewers also found redemption geographically restricted and not covering the US or Europe.


Most reviewers who tested the ring judged it on the hardware and largely ignored the token.


The blind spot all four rings share


Every ring here has the same gap, and it is the same one whether you spend $199 or $1,799. It records what happened to your body overnight and gives you no way to connect it to what you did the day before. All four apps will tell you your HRV fell. None of them will tell you it followed a 9pm meal, a third drink or a late espresso, because none of them is looking at your food.

What is the best smart ring in 2026?

It depends on which of four things you are optimising for, and the four brands split cleanly. RingConn Gen 3 at $349 flat is the best value and has the longest battery among rings you can buy today. Oura is the best evidence bet, as the only one of the four with independent peer-reviewed validation, at roughly $603 over three years with its membership. Ultrahuman Ring PRO has the longest rated battery at up to 15 days but is US pre-order only. CUDIS is the cheapest entry with a real sensor gap, having no skin temperature sensor at all.


Which smart ring is the most accurate?


There is no independent head to head study covering all four brands, so the honest answer is that nobody knows. What can be said is that Oura is the only one of the four with independent peer-reviewed validation on any of its rings, RingConn publishes per metric figures without methodology plus one hospital feasibility study, Ultrahuman's accuracy work is in-house and its largest heart rate pilot used six people, and CUDIS publishes no accuracy figure at all.


Which smart ring has no subscription?


RingConn, Ultrahuman and CUDIS all sell without a required subscription. Oura is the only one of the four that requires a membership, at $5.99 per month or $69.99 per year, without which the ring keeps only its three daily scores. Ultrahuman's version comes with an asterisk: ring data is free, but it sells optional PowerPlugs that its own site values at $133 a year for the full set.


Can you buy the Ultrahuman Ring AIR in the US?


No. Following an ITC exclusion order in Oura's patent case, the Ring AIR's US buy page redirects to the Ring PRO, and the Diesel and Rare rings display a message that Ultrahuman cannot sell or ship them to US addresses. Only the redesigned Ring PRO can enter the US, under a CBP ruling from March 2026, and it is still listed as pre-order. The Ring AIR remains available outside the US at $349.


Does the CUDIS ring track body temperature?


No. No CUDIS product page, how it works page or app store listing mentions a temperature sensor, and the company's privacy policy enumerates the health data types it collects without including temperature. This is why CUDIS cycle features cannot work the way Oura's and Ultrahuman's do, since those are temperature derived.


Is the Oura membership worth it compared to a free ring?


It depends entirely on which features you open. Over three years the membership adds roughly $210 on top of the hardware, so an Oura Ring 5 lands near $603 against $349 for a RingConn Gen 3. What the fee buys with no equivalent on the other three brands is the readiness score, nutrition and glucose integration, GLP-1 tracking, over 100 third party integrations and a developer API.


Which smart ring has the best battery life?


On manufacturer ratings, Ultrahuman's Ring PRO leads at up to 15 days, then RingConn Gen 3 at 11 to 14, CUDIS at up to 10, and Oura Ring 5 at 6 to 9. Ultrahuman's older Ring AIR is last at 4 to 6 days. These are each company's own test conditions and are not directly comparable, though independent reviewers did beat CUDIS's claim, reaching around two weeks.


Are any of these smart rings FDA cleared?


No. All four are wellness devices and none claims FDA clearance for the features compared here. Ultrahuman's AFib detection is powered by FibriCheck's cleared technology, which is a third party's clearance rather than Ultrahuman's own, and openFDA holds no records at all for CUDIS.


Can any of these rings track food?


Only Oura, and only inside its membership, through photo based meal logging and a nutrition score. RingConn, Ultrahuman and CUDIS publish no nutrition features. An app such as Kygo covers this on any of the four by logging food separately and correlating it against the sleep, HRV and heart rate data the ring already records.


The bottom line


Read as a single decision, these four rings sort cleanly once you decide what you are buying.


RingConn is the value answer: flat price, longest battery among the rings you can actually buy today, the case in the box, and the only apnea feature here. Oura is the evidence answer and the ecosystem answer, at roughly $250 more over three years and a feature set that collapses to three scores the day you stop paying. Ultrahuman is the hardware ecosystem answer and the battery answer, with a US availability problem that is real today and may not be next year. CUDIS is the cheapest way into a titanium ring with sleep tracking that one reviewer found closely matched an Oura, and it is also the only one here with no temperature sensor, no published specification and no accuracy data of any kind.
